With Musk’s scifi fandom I wonder if he’s read Time by Stephen Baxter, in which a billionaire runs his own bootstrap space business and along the way builds a spaceship called the BDB- Big Dumb Booster.

@Northwind – I wouldn’t be at all surprised, sounds exactly his sort of thing, I’ve not read it myself, so hadn’t picked up on any connection.

What with him and Bezos going for minimal complexity in the launch, utility and recovery aspects, I could almost see the two of them deciding to work together on later projects, they’ve certainly got the jump on state funded launch capabilities.
