My lad’s got a cheap multi tool which is made of plastic so I’m gonna get him a decent one for Xmas. What’s the current fave? I’m still using an original Alien which has never failed me, anything better/more useful?

We’ve had one in at work called the Cycle-On that looks quite cool and a bit different. Not sure if it’s actually any good though.

I love my Lezyne stainless one – it’s 10 years old and looks nearly brand new. It is missing a 2.5 mm hex though, check that the new ones have that – and you don’t get tyre levers.

    Bling bling though.

Crank Brothers m17. Sort of boring, but lasts forever and works well. I’ve got a Lezyne too. It’s shinier, but not as nice to use.

I got one of those Pro Bike Gear (Shimanos accessory wing) 22 multi tools.. it has served me well this year, even comes with a handy chain hook/holder for when you need to break or fix a chain. Mine came with a small case too.

If the quality is anything to go by, then Birzman any day.

Lezyne SV10 here – small, light, lots of tools inc chain tool.

I also have an older, larger version which is nicer to use but heavier.

Edit – finally used the chain tool yesterday (installing a new chain) and it works absolutely fine
