As I bass player, I must object!
Agreed.

Stanley Clarke – School DaysPretty sure nobody’s mentioned the late, great Jaco Pastorius.
Posted 1 year agoshort intro…..

Intro ish but Two bass players for the price of one band.

Cop Shoot Cop 🙂
I’m not 100% sure this qualifies (starts with guitar before the bass kicks in and the intro is short) but it’s what popped into my head:
Posted 1 year agoPretty sure nobody’s mentioned the late, great Jaco Pastorius.
blimey – never realised that was bass!
Posted 1 year agoNot crawling through 6 pages, but if no-one’s mentioned Rancid yet, shame on you all (and if theyhave, good call).
Posted 1 year agoPosted 1 year agoPosted 1 year agoDisappointing lack of Tame Impala’s The less I know the better, someone clever get with the linky linky 😉
Posted 1 year agoThis whole album is full of amazing bass lines but this is the track where it kicks in first
So heavy without just being metal, savage raspy tone and never losing the swaggering groove. It’s my favourite RATM album.

Posted 1 year agoHow did I miss this thread…
Anyone done Debaser yet?
Posted 1 year agoPretty sure nobody’s posted this yet, possibly one of my favourite Floyd pieces.
And Chris Squire, an astonishing bass player, I always find myself listening to his bass playing in particular whenever I play any Yes stuff.

The architect of loveSince this is a year old thread let’s hit this jam in the old school way
Posted 12 months agoHow it started…
Same riff on bass and guitar. Counts.
Must’ve been posted before, possibly by me as part of the tiny desk set. Superb bass into, virtuoso middle break and jaw dropper outro all put in the shade of that groove…
Posted 12 months agoNo idea if its already been mentioned but Frankie Vallie’s The Night has a glorious bassline.
Posted 12 months agoA slightly sidewise entry, but up there with my favourite intro’s of all time.
Posted 12 months agopretty basic but an iconic bass intro….

How about some Harry Nilson
Technically I guess the drums are first and it’s very short but its a great little riff and its nice a present in the mix right through the song.
And also has someone said NIB. Might even have been me!
Posted 11 months agoTechnically not an outstanding bass intro I’m guessing that former session bassist Scott Walker is the one riffing away.
Posted 11 months agoI’m pretty sure the intro was recorded with a regular 6 string guitar and the ‘dusty end’ of a bass guitar (both heavily distorted).
Posted 11 months agoI have a feeling Ive already shared Gratitude but if not it doesn’t do harm to share again
Posted 11 months agoCome up and see me, make me smile
Posted 11 months agoPosted 11 months agoPosted 9 months agoPsycho Killer
Posted 9 months agoDon’t think this has been added yet:
Posted 9 months agoDamn, how could I have forgotten Psycho Killer! I saw them on that tour, as well, supported by Dire Straits. Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth are one of the great rhythm sections.
Posted 9 months ago@greatbeardedone nice choice … a little like this 😉
Posted 9 months agoI don’t think this has been posted yet, it popped up on shuffle this morning prompting a certain amount of head banging while trying to do despatch checks on cars. I remember watching the video on a late-night MTV programme and it just blew me away.
