Bit late now but a suggestion for future reference. One solution could be to take it down to the LBS. They can probably fit them and bleed them for a few quid I would have thought.

Or, if he wanted to be cheeky about it, take them down to the LBS and ask what work needs to be done just to understand whether there was a genuine problem with the description or the brakes and then get back to you.
