    Oops.

I’ve arrived at work to discover that the charger for my Solarstorm x2 battery pack is actually at home, not here.

I do have a couple of power supplies from other devices that have an identical plug, but the output is different.
Solarstorm charger shows 8.4V and 1A
The others have 9V and 1A

    Does anyone know if:
I can get away with using a 9V supply without blowing up the batteries?
Is there anything special about the real chargers in terms of output apart from the voltage and amperage?

I don’t want to blow anything up, but I don’t want to get run over tonight either…

    No, don’t do it.
Li-ion don’t like to be messed with, but if you would like to make a small bomb, thats the way to do it!

You’ll just have to use low on the way home or cycle faster.
Oh, and this is why I always carry a spare light, front and back.

    OK, thanks.

Fortunately I have a spare light, as I don’t think I can cycle any faster after this morning’s commute of fury.

    Nononono, please don’t!
Li-ion chargers are not dumb power supplies, they vary both the voltage and the current during the charge based on the state of charge of the battery.
I can only guess what would happen if you forced 9v at 1 amp constant into a solarstorm pack, but none of the outcomes would be good!
