How is it that we’ve managed, in 5 years, to go from nearly all of us having absolutely no seatpost travel to 125 & 150mm not being enough?

For me it’s about the compromise. When I don’t have a dropper, I just slam the seat to the bottom, that’s where I want it. it’s only now that droppers are really matching that- til now it’s been a case of “more convenience and usability and flow, but less drop”. 100mm wasn’t really enough for me- I’d never just drop the post by 100mm normally. But it was still a decent compromise. 150mm was better, getting there. But 170mm almost gets rid of the compromise entirely.
