I had a glass of Penderyn back in march while staying in Betws and thought it tasted awful. I gave it another go in a Weatherspoons closer to home and it was much the same.

I do like the smokey/peaty malts, Caol Ila being a particular. have just finsihed a bottle of Talisker 12 which was very nice and a bottle of Glen Mornay, from the in laws, which I was suprised by as the taste grew on me with time.

    This thread inspired me.

Just poured a glass of my first ever whisky purchase. …

Went for the glenmorangie original as people have said its a nice place to start.

So just put on a nice film (into the wild) and about to give it a whirl.

It’s flipping addictive trying different ones once you start. I made it my mission to ‘like’ whisky two years back and am still trying different ones. Favourites are Highland Park, Speyburn, An Cnoc among a long list.

Booths had a fabulous range of offers on at the end of last month…

Glenmorangie is fantastic. The Quinta Ruban, Nectar d’Or and Lasanta are well worth trying too (I got them as one of those little boxed taster packs).

Like you, inspired by threads on the subject I’ve got more into it.
I bought a Cardhu 15yr old and a Singleton 12yr old the other day. Got a Glen Garioch 12yr old on the go at the moment, that’s gorgeous.

I’m beginning to get to the point where I can guess if I’ll like it or not based on those taste/flavour charts but you can’t beat going to a good specialist whisky shop and trying a few. I can’t stand Laphroig or Ardbeg for example but each to their own!

Whatever you do, never never have a Macallan 18 year old.

I had one a few months ago in a whiskey bar in Aberlour.

    I’ve just bought a bottle .

    God is it nice though.

Purchased a bottle of old pulteney 12 yesterday, smells glorious, I really do get the martime feeling.

    Will sample tonight

Laphroaig quarter cask, where have you been all my life? Honestly, why didn’t somebody mention it? That’s my new bang for your buck favourite for the moment, especially in supermarket xmas discount season.

My problem is that they don’t last long enough for me to build up a collection so I’ve got multiple bottles on the go at the same time to sample – I might have to splurge a couple of hundred quid all at once to out buy my drinking habit and build the stocks up.
