Any one have a smart home controller e.g samsung smartthings or a Veraplus that can control sockets, burglar alarm, lighting etc? I know there are lots of different protocols so looking at a controller that can deal with several so i am not limited to one company’s product. Any recommendations that dont cost the earth?

depends how geeky you are, but if not being wedded to a particular protocol is important then you could run Domoticz or OpenHab (both Free) on a Raspberry Pi or linux server. Both have software modules that integrate with different systems
