Epicyclo – I did wonder if that route might be nicer anti-clockwise. has anyone tried it that way. I just would have LOVED to have ridden down the zig-zags!!!!

Is there a guidebook for biking on Harris? Or is it just a case of look at a map and go?

some of those switchbacks might be a bit tight though. I thought the descent back towards tarbert was good though.

They've got to be done in both directions – the scenery changes are brilliant 🙂 I'll be taking a fatbike next visit.

I haven't looked for one, but it's fairly obvious on the OS maps, and most routes have good signage at each end.

There's a wee brown book in the Pocket Mountain series has a couple of Harris routes in it.

Can you let me have the route detail, plus any other must do's on Skye. Me and Mrs M are on Skye for a week towards the end of September – reckon I should be able to get 1.5 or 2 days on the bike

    GREAT PICS!

Remember over 15 years ago – MBUK (or someother magazine) saying Skye was like the Alps, but cheaper. Made my first trip a few months later.

Have now been to Skye 15 times and never get bored of going…the weather can be a bit iffy, but god what an awesome place.

Took Jnr Leeph last year for his first taster at only 6 months old…look forward to him being old enough to do the Tour of the Maidens, my favourite ride on Skye.

Picture 5 of Talisker black sands beach is a fantastic place on a sunny day.

A great place to chill out and just paddle.

See you on the Isle of Man Clare

Cheers Leeph….Tour of the Maidens? Sounds interesting, where is that?

I wish we had done the Glen Brittle – Fairy pools ride but actually we were so busy all week that the three rides were enough on top of all the walking, travelling and socialising!!!

I would think the only problem with untested routes on Skye and Harris is they could very easily be TOTALLY unrideable 100% of the way due to bogs!!

Another thought, would it be worth putting these routes on the Trail Guide page – it seems underused to me and would take the pain out of searching the forum pages for routes?

The Tarbert loop anti-clockwise would be mental: You would need some serious bike handling skills to ride down the zig-zags.
Did the Coffin Road west to Lusskintyre beach; Three miles of pushing through bogs to easy double-track descent; don't bother!
Quirang route with descent to Floddigary in Skye good though.

Especially as there may be people walking up/down it 🙂 It's a long way down if you get it wrong.

You left them behind on that first pic! I see the weather was the lovely, as predicted. Hope Tom and the P7 went well together, a tough option I would say.

    Home soonish, be seein' ya.

a few yrs ago me and a mate tried to ride it the other way having pushed up. Thankfully we both fell off before reaching terminal velocity and finding a watery grave….. 😆

Guys and girls, come on please. I need to know the route. You all seem to be in the "I've done the Skye routes but not telling anyone what they are" club.

As previous post, I'm there for a week with Mrs M in a month's time, and should be able to head off for one full day plus another half one

When I went, we only got the chance to do one route to the Feb weather on Skye! We started from Staffin (on the north east of the island), headed up the road to the Quiraing, once at the top where the car park is, head right and follow the ridge (singletrack) all the way to the Qairaing, past the prison and back down via Loch Hasco onto the A road just north of where you started.

This wasn't a very long route, maybe 6 miles in total. But its a good one if you have a few hours to kill.

didmatt, thanks. Looks good for a quickie so will put it on the list.

Really want to get into the Cuillins for the big one though. Glen Sligachan is pretty obvious on the map, but don't know where to go from there.

Great, thanks didmatt. Did a forum search on Skye but that one didn't come up. Looks like Sligachan to Camasunary and back gets the vote to avoid a big road ride.

Anyone done the Sligachan path to Lochan Dubha then branched right to Loch Coruisk. Looks fun and IIRC Loch Coruisk is pretty spectacular

Cm, we were walking around Loch Coruisk last week and it was SERIOUSLY boggy, but I know what you mean about the path that branches up right from the cairn in Glen Sligachan, we were looking at it longingly too!!!!
