Need to replace a shower and saw this from MX to replace the old mixer shower.

Never heard of the brand. Are they any good?
    Thanks.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of them and I’ve certainly never fitted one. is it worth buying something cheap thats going to be buried in your wall behind your new tiling. They can be a bugger to fix when they do go wrong.

Depends what hot water system you’ve got. Mira Combiforce (or is it a combiflowflow….can’t remember of the top of my head….) has been faultless for me, on a combi bolier

My advice would be to buy a high quality shower valve. They are not all the same. I made the mistake of fitting one from The Bath Store… They are cheap Chinese made rubbish, when it stops working properly, you will have the grief of changing it and re-tiling the wall.

I’ve used Bristan stuff in my last couple of bathrooms, with no problems, other than those caused by user error. It’s pretty inexpensive, and looks reasonable.

I can confirm that a slow-leaking recessed fitting behind tile and plaster is an utter PITA.

Can I assume the one you refer to isn’t an MX? As far as I can see the MX stuff is UK made.
That should be ok, shouldn’t it?

I’ve fitted a couple of MX Atmos Sigma showers in customers’ bathrooms and I’m very impressed with the quality for the price. The guy I get them off is a bathroom specialist and they’re the only sort he specifies.

EDIT – The one you saw is the Atmos Zone. You can get surface mounted ones, like the Energy or Shadow which have the same head and a separate handset.

If it is British made, it might be OK, I am not an expert though. Just an amatuer. All I know is, I wouldn’t fit, and tile over anything but the finest valve possible, in fact I will most prob change it for an exposed valve, so that it can be repaired without hassle.

Their shower trays are UK made but I suspect their Chinese factory might be involved in some areas of shower manufacture.

I’ve bought or inherited a few cheap taps and showers over the years – always a mistake as spares aren’t available when something goes wrong. In future I’ll always buy a brand that’s been around for a good few years.

If you’re disposing of any old stuff it’s usually made of brass – good value for scrap so don’t chuck it away.

Check out ‘Ergonomicdesigns.com’, they have really good stuff and it’s not expensive.
