  • I’m calling vintage pre ’95.

The only item I have is this:

But I’d love to own some period separates.

Let’s have a look at your stash.

Had the MD deck since new (2000 according to minidisc.org). Tape deck was £12 off ebay a few years ago when my separates one died.

    No pics, but…

NAD 3020i amp from around ’94, as well as some TDL RTLII MK2 speakers and a Luxman D322 cd player from around the same time.

I’ve got a portable CD player in the loft, but it’s from around ’99.

Back at my Mum and Dad’s I’ve got a Hitachi 3D superwoofer ghetto blaster with twin tape deck. That must be from around ’91-’92 I reckon.

    I used to use this

Which was my granddad’s, I replaced it in about 2005.

I still use the turntable though

It could do with a new cartridge and I’m sure there’s plenty out there that sound better, but partly for sentimental reasons & because it’s a nice thing. Early 80s I think.

For a while I used this Dual CS 505 while I was waiting to recommission the Beogram. Early 80s I think as well.

I have that Dual turntable in the attic, bought it in 1982. If we ever listen to vinyl nowadays we still use the wife’s systemdek 11 from a similar age. They used to have one in the National museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

Could only find this pic with the purple hammerhead (1985 vintage?)
8000A is 80s, I’ve had it since mid 90s. NAD turntable might scrape in too, think I bought it around 96? Much missed Celestion Ditton 33s not in pic, OH mothballed them saying they were ugly…

Blimey, surprised to see Dual get a mention by several folk. Only have the amp and tuner left and still going strong from *I think* the early 80’s. Will post a pic tomorrow.

My turbo set up at work has a pair of Bose 802’s which are from the mid 80’s. We’ve still got a few AKG 451 mics in regular use which sound really nice to this day. they were pretty much tv studio standard in the 70’s and 80’s. We’ve a few minidisk and twin cassette decks somewhere on a shelf.

That’s exactly what the REAL glen Quagmire would have.

With the hifi rack next to his sheepskin rug. Giggity!

Arcam Alpha 9. Not as old as some but old enough. Great CD deck as well.

Dual 505 in the loft somewhere, along with the Mission 700’s. Just got rid of a tape deck, I think I still have the Phillips 104 CD player somewhere.

Still using Dual 505/2, in fact I’ve just replaced the amp leads. Plus, a NAD CD player and a Cambridge Audio amp from around the same vintage (about 1990?). They sound great – far superior to friends’ streaming-type equipment.
