I don’t mean home assembled, but built – either frames, or perhaps heavy duty modifications, or home made parts…

that’s the prototype, if this thread is still going in the morning i’ll stick up pictures of the most recent one.

(it’s more or less the same)

Not quite complete in this photo but was eventually rideable, made from three frames brazed together:-

Well I’m not staying up all night to keep it going, but…. 😉

I think you need to put another pic up so we can see the suspension there. Is it 100% home made? Swing arm and all?

Nicknoxx – looks like something that naked ladies should be riding in queen’s bicycle race video! (or less excitingly, something the oddies would ride)

    well, i din’t make the shock…

in that 1 up there ^ the front triangle is a dmr sidekick, but the next frames i made were all ‘mine’

(i didn’t do any of the welding, but it’s design, made from tubing i mitred, welded up in a jig i designed/made myself)

Raced with a chap at SITS who had built this.

Have to say I was really impressed, and it rode ok too from the little spin I had….

Here’s my effort, not quite ‘Home-made’ but built under the guidance of Ron and Gary at UBI, Ashland.

Whos is the blue 29er? And where can i get one? 😀 thats stunning!

Really fancy building a frame myself, its just the outlay for the jig that puts me off. Anyone got any pictures of the jigs theyve used? Can it be done cheaply?

Here’s a couple of pics of my second frame that I finally finished earlier this year, though its now sporting a rather bright ‘tonka truck’ yellow paint job:

You can get away with quite simple jigs and a bit of imagination and alot of patience (heres what I built my first frame on):

The DIRT mag website has done a few features on homemade bikes (my mk1 included) which are worth checking out if your interested in homebrews, and show a range of designs/constructions and approaches: http://dirt.mpora.com/tag/homemade-bikes

this is awesome. i’d never have the confidence to ride my own frame though (or let anyone else for that matter). a couple of those are really nice looking. and some ^ are a bit mad max too 8)

aw i killed the thread? moar diy frames!
anyone tried to make components too.. mechs might be tricky, handlebars maybe not, but cranks doable?

i have an engineer friend who talks about making his own forks with amazing tolerances.. not going to happen :/

This is tonight’s creation – fat front, 150mm 1994 steel hardtail. Don’t think that has been done before 😉

I won’t be worrying about that – only built from sh1te for hauling a tag along for the wee one around the woods 😉
