OK I’m bored, no riding for 3 weeks due to broken finger so please show me some nice bikes that you’ve built yourself. I’m looking for some inspiration for my new build.
Can be full sus, rigid, geared or not, doesn’t really matter as long as it was custom built and not a standard shop bought bike.
Here’s a couple I’ve done for starters…
My Rush, frame and a few bits off ebay, other bits from the spares box.
Filthy Jr’s track bike, bike off ebay, stripped then re-built with brompton rims, bmx hubs, roadie brakes and a few bits from the spares box.
Dialled Bikes Alpine wiv full XT inc wheels, brakes etc. Thomson post/stem. RF Diabolous bars and RS 454 U-Turn coil Pikes.
First custom build i have ever done. Well, i say i did, mate helped me build but since then i have had it apart and back together several times now i know whats what….well kinda 😉
I was going to build it this year, but so glad i did it last year instead, as saved a packet due to all the price rises. The wheels alone are about £100+ more this year.
go on then, ths sunday is now stickered up as sabbath as they changed names just as i bought the frame, built lots more but sold em all now apart from these four . and im keeping these now 😉
I love Rocky Mountain Element frames but somehow yours looks all wrong Clubber. Is it a bit small for you?
yes, well spotted – it’s a 19″ when I really ideally need a 20″/21″ – it was so cheap though (£60!) that I can live with it and TBH with a relatively long stem (110mm) and layback post, once I’m out on the trails I totally forget that it’s supposedly too small as it rides brilliantly…
94 Kona Cindercone singlespeed built over last few months with retro and semi-retro spares except frame which has had many owners previously from Retrobike.
I think these are the only MTBs I have built from scratch. Only the Kona remains and that probably needs to be sold to make place for my new Whyte HT when it arrives next month.
Heres my ever evolving Tracer, soon to be getting a pare of Lyrics fitted, once the stem arrives. btw Bike Love is a shop
I built the wheels myself to.
and yeah, that Tracer looks great. Had a quick spin on one a couple of weeks ago at the Cwmcarn demo day – wow 😀 . That said I have a 6.6 on my CRC wishlist – just waiting for the Tracer’s popularity to bring the price down 😉
I did all the paint removal, using Nitromors, but Clive at Total Paintworks ( find him in the yellow pages) did more surface prep etc. It cost £220 which I think was great for a 4 pack paint!!!
It is wearing OK, not a powder coat but not totally fragile either.
