My main criteria were…
1) can i afford to quickly replace it if it’s stolen?
2) does it attract a lot of attention?
3) are there any QR bits, or can anything be nicked from it, quickly?

I reckon that a commuter bike should work reliably in all conditions and to look quite too boring to be worth stealing. Thus, the Vitus is the better bike for me (however it needs a custom built pannier rack..)
