I highly recommend the MN rear guard over anything I’ve used before. It’s as effective as the best, yet so much lighter and and has a genuinely quick release catch. It can also be rolled up into a short tube for storage, making it completely portable in a backpack. Genius.

At what point did mountain bikers become afraid of mud? *stomps off swearing about Johnny come lately mincers and the fact that its all gone down hill since the 80’s*

Tazzy not afraid of mud, mighty afraid of Mrs Zip ,kitchen and mud.
A muddy Sunday and mud is fun. Getting to work plastered in mud and the return journey home every day for the next 7 months , not fun.
I flatly refuse to ride on the road.

    Wot are those red things?

… on the handlebars 😈 … are you using bar end inside your normal grips?

In years to come, will that ^^^^ 🙄 be seen in the same threads as the Paperclip bike? Quite possibly!

Does anyone put a mudguard on to look cool? No. They get up on to avoid soggy chamois and mud in the eye. Fashion police can hibernate when its wet SFAIAC.

I bet this guy put his on to look cool. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that…

There’s a reason for everything on my bike. That’s my winter and bog bike.

The barends aren’t for holding – they are there so the bike is stable upside down if I have to remove a wheel. Makes life much simpler removing the wheel in the dark at subzero. (Lots of fiddly bits on drum brakes)

The mudguards keep crap off me in the warmer months. I know it’s fashionable to have a dogshit and dung bespeckled face, but that’s a fashion you can keep.

More importantly the mudguards keep slush and snow off me in winter. My rides are often several hours and keeping dry helps prevents hypothermia.

Luckily I don’t have to suffer scorn from the cycling aesthetes when I’m riding because they don’t seem to venture into the places I ride. 🙂

    This is my summer bike.

I’ve never had a problem with mud guards, I’m not a fan of being covered head to toe in crap and mud………..
I don’t think my ladies look too bad with their guards on.

Eh? Bike don’t look good with guards, ever.
Guards are a (sometimes) necessary evil for riding in shite conditions.

Those portland design works ones look well sturdy, i presume they are bike specific tho…?

Not that I’m aware but they are not cheap and had to fudge them on due to the bike having disc brakes… Very sturdy being alloy too!
