  • Short wildcamp tour of Scotland in a week or two – dumb as a butt??

Hi all. Thinking of doing a wee tour from Aviemore to Aberdeen over 2-and-a-bit days soon. I bivied on the solstice and got chomped to pieces (despite the midge forecast only being 1 out of 5). Is there any way to avoid this? Would a tent keep them out? Or should I just not bother?

    Thanks!

    Smidge.
Camp where there is a breeze and away from bogs, trees and standing water.

Aye – camp on the coast where it’s windy, or camp up the top of a mountain. Anywhere else and you’ll get munched.

Thanks all. No money for B+Bs so mountain tops it is! Last time was camping in a pine forest on a still and humid night…
