A Shooting Brake would traditionally have been a custom convertion from a saloon to take shooting parties to the hills.

In contemporary usage, the term shooting-brake has broadened to include a range of vehicles from five-door station wagons — to three-door models combining features of a wagon and a coupé.

No, it fails by being hideously ugly, a hatchback and ‘cheep’.

I always thought a shooting brake was a sort of coach built type thing, something like this

Although, I also thought it was used in Britain as a general term for similar designs, up until at some point in the 70s the Americanism ‘Estate’ became the norm. Might be completely wrong tho.

The americans refer to them as station waggons don’t they?

I’ve only ever heard shooting break used to refer to luxuary/sports cars coachbuilt with estate back ends.

944 with an Audi roof apparently. Looks nicer than the standard car

I’d be much more likely to buy a TT if they had made it like this.

Some of these new Mercedes ‘shooting brake’ photos in the car press recently are pretty hideous to my eyes.

    I like the look of the 944. Here’s a 928.

EDIT – It does look like an Austin Allegro Estate on steroids.

You might be on to something – I do own a Scirocco. 🙂

Rocco is a good bit bigger than that old TT concept though.

5lab, you beat me to it. However, and sorry to be a pedant (but this is STW), you have posted a pic of a 2.8 euro/us spec one. Not the 3.2 M-power version like the one in my garage. Very practical small estate car.

Loving the Astons and the Jaaaaaaag.

The title got me. We use the term regularly at work much to the amusement of our younger collegues.
