I need to get some shifters for a bike build and from previous posts the Shimano XT seem to get the thumbs up but I’m confused as to what ones these are. A quick google brings up the M770s which are also branded Deore are these the right ones or is there another model also referred to as XT?

    Cheers

M770 is not Deore, ain’t it “Deore XT”?

Just be aware that M770 shifters come in 9-speed or 10-speed, so make sure you get the right ones to match your drivetrain.

Also, they aren’t the latest version, there’s an M780 available now which has a few extra bells & whistles, most notably the option of mounting to your brake levers so you don’t need a separate clamp – called I-spec in the jargon.

    Bargain XT for £16.99
    CRC XT

    Poverty spec Deore for £11.99
    CRC deore

I biought the Deore one last week and was really impressed with its construction and operation.

Im pretty sure that M770 XT was 9spd only.
10spd XT kicked in at M780 IIRC.
Oh and given the choice I’d have XT over SLX or Deore every time. Tried SLX and found them a little plasticky, they worked fine, but XT had a more solid feel IMO.
