Hi, I’ve just picked up a bike today currently running singlespeed and I’m looking at running it as a 1×9 or a 1×10 with a chain device but i can’t work out wether i should get sram or shimano what is the difference apart from the make? and whats the benefit of getting that extra gear?

Depends on you budget, in my expirence lower end sram not good on durability however XO and XX are awesome been running XO on a couple of bikes for years can’t fault it, lower budget i would go with shimano deore/slx and workhorse xt all very reliable and far cheaper than XO.

Personal preference. There is no right answer. I had XX last year and XTR this year and far prefer XTR.

10 speed gives you more options for a wider range (11-36) cassette. If starting from scratch I’d definitely go 10 speed.
