Hopefully I can explain what I’m asking well enough 🤣

    I’m getting a 12 speed 52/36 172.5mm Ultegra 8100 crankset soon. (Sadly I can’t swap them to 175)

    I have an 11 speed 53/39 175mm Ultegra r8000 crankset.

Can I take the 12 speed rings off and put them on the old 11 speed axle/spider or has something changed that means they won’t fit, or will be misaligned?

Yeah, very annoyingly, 11 spd and 12 spd cranks and chainrings are cross compatible in terms of BCD but the Shimano rings aren’t purely because they changed the smooth interface where the chainring blends into the crank on the bottom right bolt (as you look at it).  So for example, both sets of Shimano chainrings fit fine on my Rotor Aldhu crank with P2M spider and the 11 spd Rotor rings that I have will fit on both the R8000 and R8100 series cranks.

General consensus is also that 11spd chainrings will work fine with 12spd and vice versa as well, which only makes the whole thing even more annoying.

#EDIT : Sorry, meant bottom left bolt.

Thansk! I guess if worst came to worst I could try my old 11 speed 53/39 with the rest of the 12 speed then 👍🏻
