Have had the Sram mech and shifter on my bike for a while and never been that happy.

Used an old bike with Shimano gears and realised what it is I don’t like about the Sram. Despite the Sram shifter being an all singing all dancing thingy where you can adjust the position of the big lever, I’ve never liked the thumb only shifting on the Sram.

Much prefer the lighter touch and the index finger shifting on Shimano.

I’ve got a Sram 10-42 cassette. Will A Shimano mech work with this?

I use 11s Shimano mechs & shifters on 3 bikes with SRAM 10-42 cassettes/chains, never missed a beat on any of them. Go for it.

As above. I run XTR shifters and Mechs on XX1 XD cassettes. It’s the lightest and best combination.

Oh…. What cage length should I be looking for?

Mid-length cage is fine for a single ring setup.

I have several Shimano XT shifters/mechs on SRAM 11sp cassettes and think they work better than when I had the Sram GX mech & Shifters.
