Need to replace an older shimano M395 caliper on my daughter’s bike as the pistons have gone – can I put a newer XT caliper on there or will the brake line not work with it? Reckon the M395 must be 6+ years old and the XT is newer, less than 2yo.

the caliper will work with the lever, but the M395 I think will have an inline entry to the caliper, whereas the XT will be banjo.

you can get banjo adapters though that just compression fit on the end of the hose.

As long as the connectors are correct – ie straight or banjo – then it should be ok.

There are 2 types of Shimano hose BH59 & BH90 with slightly different internal bores but either ought to work

Thks – I see the banjo / in-line difference now that you mention it. Guess I’ll just get a new inline caliper.

If the current hose has a banjo, just cut it off and fit a new insert and olive and you’ll be good to go.
