San Francisco apparently being one of STWs favourite cities I’m after some suggestions for a hotel.

Previously stayed at one of the airport hotels and a couple of times up in Larkspur. This time I’ve got a few nights at the end of April and looking to stay a little nearer the city. Will have a car so can travel a bit but that’ll also preclude centre hotels due to parking charges.

    Any recommendations?

    Hi Spence,

I stayed here 2 years back http://www.argonauthotel.com/null and it was a lovely place. Stayed for two nights, it was very clean, has a gym and is a great location to the waterfront. The hotel is only situated about a mile from the bridge, so it’s easy to commute to the trails in Marin County. We also had a car at the time and the hotel used a cheap company around the back of the hotel for guests, they will organise this for you. I recommend this place for seafood http://www.scomas.com/

Enjoy your trip, it’s a crackin place.

Does it have to be a hotel?

You could stay central with free parking with a double room at the Fishermans Wharf hostel

Stayed here a few years ago – very nice and just off Union Square.

This place was cheap, nice (fairly quiet but handy enough for the city) location, has parking. Nothing fancy but not a dive (your expectations may vary…) Worked for us anyway.

Stayed at the ‘San Remo Hotel’ a couple of times, very quirky – but very comfortable (has its own parking if you book in advance). I think it cost me about $80 per room (Sept 11) It’s within walking distance of Fishermans wharf etc. Very nice people and good cafes/restaurants close by.

Would certainly recommend. (I would stay there again)

Ps. Apparently it’s the oldest hotel in San Francisco as it survived the ‘Great Fire’ by being draped with red wine soaked sheets!! 🙂

Why stay in the city if you have a car?

I stayed here a year ago. Right next door to Chinatown, loads of great bars and restaurants nearby, not far from the Wharf etc.

    chancellor hotel, powell street.

quiet, cheapish and top notch service.

right next door to Sears for the ultimate SF breakfast [try the country sausage or world famous 18 pancakes] and hop onto the powell to hyde cable car outside once done 🙂

I have stayed in the Mark Hopkins. It is a lovely traditional hotel within walking distance of the centre. Cracking place.

Try Clift and you shouldn’t go to SF without eating at The Slanted Door. Good luck

+1 for the San remo. Really good value as its an old building which they can’t put many ensuites in. All rooms have a sink to wee in though.

Stayed at the Handlery just off Union Square, fabulous place and very reasonably priced. Plus, it’s just around the corner from Ruby Skye. Oh my.
