Alright, so is it correct to plaurulise fork names. Most people Pikes, recons, Lyriks, Floats. But the sticker on the side is singular and they using only have one susupension fork, or ‘pair of forks’.

And is ‘pair of forks’ for 1 Pike, a tautology?

This one’s quite funny for us – we have a bit of an in joke about the S-Ram pronunciation. Not sure where it came from, as you’d never have it with other brands, would you?

Adidas is definitely Adi Das, not the long eee sound.

Come from the founder Adolf (Adi) Dassler who was a German cobbler.

Rudolph Dassler was his older brother who set up Puma.

Horst Dassler was his son who set up Arena swimwear.

Quite impressive really for one family.

    What about Marzocchi?

    Mar Zoch Chi
    or
    Mar Zock Ee
    or something else?

In Italian “ch” makes it equivalent to a “k” sound in English so the second of your two would be right…but really? folk have actual arguments over this kind of thing?

Had a guy in the bike shop asking about Pew-Joe bikes once. It took a while to work out that he meant Peugeot.

I’ve heard all sorts of interpretations of Marzocchi. The correct one (apparently) being Mar-ZOK-Ee.

Sort of bike related was hearing some Americans at Coed-y-Brenin pronounce the name of the nearest town as Doller-Gelloo (hard g). 😆

    doo-ter (in californian)
    doy-ter (in german)
    dir-ter (in frenchish)
    dyoo-ter (in, err, dunno)

    😆 I’ve just remembered something else…

When I was working in one of a large chain of bike shops, I had a guy come in and ask if we sold “Bomkss” bikes (difficult to spell the noise he made)
I asked “I’m sorry, what kind of bikes?”
    “Bomkss”
“Umm… I’m not sure I’ve heard of that brand, Could you spell that please?”
    “Yeah sure, B M X”
    “Oooooh…”

One of our work colleagues comes from Marin County. You have to put your aviators on, wear a highway patrol stetson, chew some tobacco and say it…

A well known lbs owner of considerable riding skillz and mechnical repute near me says “Bianchi” wrong despite talking fondly of the one he used to have a few years ago. 😀

    “Commen-chal (as in loch)”
    but aren’t they from Andorra?

iirc Max Commencal himself is French, but runs his bizness in Andorra because of the excellent trails, mountains, chairlifts and tax arrangments 😉

I think I will start saying “Ca-non-da-lay” from now on and see how long it takes before someone gets all upset at me. 😀
