You’re on the continent and can’t get it?

A quick check of the ADR (road) regs versus IATA (air) suggests that if the seller can ship domestically, they should be able to ship internationally as the requirements are virtually identical. I’d need the MSDS for the actual product to check but I’m assuming its EN1950 for a flammable aerosol.

Of course, this doesn’t help if computer says no. Couriers like TNT will do the whole DG assessment, packaging and shipment, but I’d expect it’s £££ relative to the cost of the product.

Can’t you get a similar spray on contact adhesive locally?

    cant get it..

    whats the msds?

    its a high temperature adhesive

the only one i can get in switzerland costs 30chf per can and holds up to 80deg

trim-fix is 4gbp per can and holds upto 120 deg..

Any contact adhesive will work, carpet shops/ DIY/ Supermarkets etc. I found trim fix type stuff a bit crappy TBH, the only benefit being it didn’t soak the fabric making it feel stiff or rough, but so long as you’re careful any glue will work.

After a year or so when the “official” trim adhesive failed, I just used standard carpet glue that I painted on. Where I was worried I’d soak it, I painted a thin layer on, let it dry to a plastic like finish then glued that to the ply.

If the aerosols are only classified as Flammable then up to lL can be shipped under limited quantities exemptions.

However if it has a subsidiary hazard e.g. toxic then 120ml is the limited quantity limit.

The above only to applies to road transport.

ok thanks for that – did you use a paint on one then? not a pain to do?

Need the high temp though i would assume?

Switzerland isnt so hot on the whole diy.. its not the uk..

It’s a long shot and won’t be cheap but Luker Bros make weekly trips to Switzerland. Maybe if they’re doing a house move to someone or somewhere near you they could chuck your cans in the van?

I bought some furniture in the UK, got it shipped to them and they brought it out. They’re really good to deal with but obviously you’ll be small beer to the things they normally deal with (the week I got my stuff they were heading to Gstaad, then Verbier then Zermatt…)

If you aren’t in a rush, I’ll be moving back to Geneva in Jan and can bring it. Email me if that will help.

    Where about are you based?

My brother-in-law is driving out to me in Zurich on the 14/15th Dec, I could check with him, but I am sure he would happily bring out the cans. He is coming in an empty van as we are taking all our stuff back to the UK with him.

I will be leaving on the Friday morning though so would have to be picked up from Zurich (Rumlang to be exact) on the Thursday… not in the evening though as we will be in town getting some beers.

You’ll also need a UN approved transport container. (Generally a double box arrangement but check first).

Carpet Fitter’s adhesive doesn’t work as it’s not strong enough; it’s only desiged to stop carpet moving. You need an Evo-Stik type contact adhesive like Dunlop Trim Spray. I lined the roof of my Land Rover 90 with it and it worked fine and held for years, holding the felt to the roof and the trim fabric to the felt, even in hot sun.

There must be car upholsterers in your nearest city who can supply proper adhesive.

Otherwise call Segal Motor Trimmings in Manchester and ask how they send the stuff overseas. http://www.segalmotortrimmings.net/

Edit: just checked the link and I see that none of their adhesives can be shipped outside the UK. Useful link anyway.

not so easy here in switzerland.. its not like the uk.

business is business and they dont like selling things they use, there is no discussion and maybe thats difficult for us brits to get used to..

i’ve tried two car upholsterers (thers only 3 or 4 that i can find) and both refused..

That is why i am after Trim-fix – widely used in van conversions…

    Ah, Lausanne, sorry I can’t help 🙁

We are potentially driving past that way, but not 100% sure yet and have a pretty tight timings for our trip home.

Hope you manage to get something sorted.

Maybe the Swiss don’t do DIY, they just get a little chappie to do everything.

i havent checked hornbach but all i have found in 3m 77 80 or 90 and the max temp any of these holds is 80deg…

hornbach arent generally specialist – they do everything not very well..

    nail on head globalti..
