We’re about to head off to Nevez (just east of Concarneau) for two weeks and I can’t decide whether it is worth the faff of loading four bikes onto the roof. Can anyone tell me if there is much in the way of family friendly stuff in that area please?

My Google-fu is letting me down badly so far, other than suggesting there’s not much point in taking the enduro gnarpoon…

    TIA!

I’d say take the bikes. Tourist offices hand out maps of local routes, which are waymarked. We stayed several times at the Yelloh site near Guilvinec and there’s a fair few off road routes, more gravelbikey verging to xc mtb. I’d call it relaxed biking I used to do with my kids with some nice and more interesting bits here and there (ride out along the granite cliffs to Point de Raz, say.

There’s plenty on line – google parcours vtt and where you’re interested in going. So randomly here’s a map with a few routes:

…got from here where there are a few more, from their events page

…and here’s a few more from a site where people post routes. Can’t vouch for quality.

There’s more of a hill at Locronan, I vaguely recall, with a few loops and bits and bobs, where I did my only ever clipped in carpark topple, to my kids great amusement.

The main draw for me is the Audierne thru Crozon coast for surf, but it’s a brilliant region to explore inland too.

    a lovely area.
many years in Port Manec’h and nearby, albeit not for a few.

Very Cornish really (Breton I guess) – in place names, culture etc etc. Like Cornwall, the rocks are granite, so take water shoes…

Very quiet on the back roads. And Kervaillet has a lovely beach and cider maker.

the old fort at Concarneau is good for a couple of hours. Nice market there as well. Pont Aven is a bit touristy, but very picturesque.

You can hire kayaks on Port Manec’h beach, and paddle up the Aven a good distance. And the island just off shore is accessible by a spit at low tide. Really used to love that when I was 7ish.

Absolutely to all that – though like an empty Cornwall (parts actually called Cornouaille! See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornouaille ) with no rough bits.

It’s the off the beaten track bits I recall – unvisited alignements of menhirs you just stumble upon, or a long barrow we were actually able to crawl all the way along with one bike torch. That sort of thing.
