Trying to find somewhere for the summer hols and its proving to be a nightmare. Either places are bonkers expensive or they’re grotty looking chintz filled hell holes.

Looking for somewhere for 2 adults and two young (4 and 1) kids so somewhere with its own outdoor space would be ideal (or somewhere with a playground etc). Other than that, don’t really have any other needs.

Just wondering if anyone had any of their own recommendations??

    Cheers

Seen Vellendreath before but £1500 per week in the summer hols is a bit too much!

If you want somewhere alternative to stay these guys have 2 cottages on their campsite. Not stayed at the cottages myself as we prefer our lovely tent… but my wife has looked around them and said they were lovely. Its on the hills above Penznace

Its an amazing place to stay with live music in their barn, or outside round campfires every night. Google Noongallas on you tube and you’ll see some of the music that happens there.

If you are looking for something for the kids there are loads of children who all play together on the campsite and beautiful woods to explore and play in.

Do you or the good lady work in a school? We’ve decided to take a punt on the day the kids actually start back. It is supposed to be 5th September which is a Friday. We’re banking on it being an insect (sic) day.
The reason we’ve booked this week is that a lot of the companies have reduced the prices by a good 20% from the week before as they’re probably not classing it as school holidays.
This link will give you an idea. Won’t link 4th edit do it yourself 😆

Have stayed in the last one myself. It’s very nice – they’ll provide a cot for your youngest and the 4 year old would have their own room. No real outside space but both the beach and the Mount Edgcumbe estate are within a couple of mins walk. Couple of pubs also nearby and you can even get a ferry across to the Barbican in Plymouth

Chalets in the Dunes and a 3 Mile beach

We’ve stayed in these a few times. Kids go straight onto the dunes and play. Walk through the dunes onto the beach.

Look up Flavils in Devon. Just down the road from Dartington and on a working dairy farm. Lovely owners and a really nice place to stay.

    Steephill Cove holiday cottages

If you can get into these I’d say they were the nicest spot on the IOW.

i think teh steep hill cove ones might be a bit damp at present!

also the ‘beach’ is a touristy hellhole in summer.

plus its on teh isle of wight which is, for the most part, horrible.

there are nice beaches further towards the needles but you have to camp. and there is NOTHING there.

sorry i have to spend too much time on the island (family)

i booked a cottage in ireland once that was nice.

I’ve used Coast and Country Cottages and found them really good.
They look after Salcombe/Kingsbridge area if that helps.

North Hayne Farm Cottages – stayed there every year for the last 7 until the split.
Lovely place, amazing owners and 12 miles from Barnstaple, 6 miles from Exmoor and 2 miles from The Mill 😉

These apartments in Porthtowan are great as they are right on the beach. Location is amazing and generally a good price. Kids will live the beach and there is a great bar/cafe you can have a beer from and watch them play. We have just booked for April.

cheaper by far than vellandreath, in the cove, even in the very height of summer the cove beach right infront is quiet…
