Unless you were looking for Netflix-only stuff, there seems to be some cracking older movies on there at the moment.

Couple of documentaries which were very enjoyable.

I quite liked Annihilation, absolutely hated Polar (but you will know whether you’re going to like it or not within about five minutes)

There’s also The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which I loved, but is definitely marmite.

Meru. Truly epic. Makes you realise how far folk can push themselves in extreme conditions to become legends in their sport. Then watch Free Solo & see that even among their peer group there’s always another loon willing to push those boundaries further.

Meru doesn’t appear to be there any more, or I would’ve already recommended it. Absolutely brilliant, gripping documentary.

If you have a phone/puter and chromecast you could sign up for Now TV, get 2 weeks of free Sky Cinema and watch Three Billboards Outside Ebbing – I thought was excellent.

Watched Fargo the other day and really liked that also.

A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper outshone Lady Gaga for me. Good soundtrack to boot.

Ladybird. Spotted that on one of the tv services. Not seen but some good reviews when it came out.

Alita – Battle Angel. Not likely to be found on Netflix.

Last night I watched Serenity and the night before Oceans 8. So no I have not seen any good films lately.

Watched Peppermint earlier which was pretty good. On Amazon though.

I quite enjoyed ‘The Losers’ on Netflix recently-bit of mindless action to pass the time.

EDIT: What’s not to like about Serenity? Great movie.

Annilation is very good but I think his first (Alex Garland) Exmachina was better. Unfortunately no longer on Netflix.

Elysium is quite good and not as well known as I thought it would be.

Get Out and Ted are both on Netflix at the moment.

+1 for get Out too, didn’t realise it was on there

Saw this a few weeks ago. I haven’t enjoyed a film that much in a very long time.

I watched Get Out last weekend……. best film I’ve seen for a long time (at least as good as 3 billboards IMO)

Just added and watched last night – very goid

Mrs Gti has just seen A Private War, the film about Marie Colvin. Absolutely amazing, she said.

She saw it at HOME in Manchester, which replaced the Cornerhouse as the arthouse cinema. It’s really nice; they sell you a ticket and you watch a film, no sweets, popcorn, hot dogs or other garbage, people go there to watch a film not stuff their faces with sugar so audiences are well-behaved. HOME also has a great bar and a great restaurant with sound-absorbing panels, so a nice quiet atmosphere for a meal.

Iceman. Stoneage hunter/gatherer goes on a revenge mission after his clan are killed. Best film I’ve seen in years.

Why yes, I watched Ghost Dog – way of the samurai with my son yesterday.

I was reminded what thoughtfully funny and ironic little indie gem it is, and what a banging soundtrack it has.
