  • Sea swimming in Northumberland – any recommendations?

We’re staying in Alnwick for a few days and want to do some swimming in the sea, maybe snorkelling too. Can anyone recommend any good spots within driving distance? Thanks.

Beadnell bay is lovely, and, at high tide, you could safely remain in the bay while getting a good distance done. Snorkelling just north of the bay in the rocky reefs off the beach opposite the campsite. Lovely spot!

I believe alnmouth has quite severe currents, don’t think it’s reccomended to swim there. Durridge bay would be good.

    Beadnell is cracking.
I think Alnmouth is ok if you steer clear of the river mouth, but no good for snorkelling
