Brown sauce? WTF is that? It is HPDaddies sauce!

    Fixed it for you. 😉
Without reading through it all, what about Bangers, mash and beans? The only way to eat it is all mashed together with lashings and lashings of Daddies sauce. Omnomnomnom. 😀

Try going into a fancy restaurant and asking for white sauce with your fish. You know the one that tastes like.. well you know.. stuff.. and it’s got bits in it.

10 fishfingers, 5 rounds of bread, brown sauce, red sauce, mayo and butter.
All together this made 5 different combinations, took 15 mins to make and 10 mins to eat.

    1) Plain – No sauce (the control butty)
    2) Red Sauce
    3) Brown Sauce
    4) Red & Brown Sauce
    5) Red & Mayo

    Some extracts from my findings…

…. mayo is completely unnecessary….. I have no idea why you’d combine this with any of the other sauces….

The control butty was utter rubbish. Having long been a believer in the ‘no sauce’ approach, this was just far too dry.

Red…. (on its own) and Brown…. (on its own)…. both good. With every mouthful I found myself longing for a bit of the other. In the name of science I resisted alternate bites between the two….

So, this led me to the champion of champions the winningest matrimony of red and brown. Just the right level of moisture, sweetness and tanginess. The rest of the box of 30 fishfingers will be consumed using this combination.

I apologise for the somewhat brief synopsis, but I still feel quite sick. I can’t even think about the bananas and custard I was planning on having for afters.

Oh, wait. He’s a sheep. In that case, I’ll have a rack, rare please. Perhaps a little mint sauce. Not green sauce you heathen scum.

Is that sliced bananas hidden in a large bowl of custard, or something else?

My young nephew won’t eat gravy. So everytime I serve it up, it gets called sauce, that solves the problem.

Absolutely no use for red/tomato sauce in my house – sort of an east/west split up here, and I’m firmly in the east/salt-n-sauce camp…

hmmmm.. I must be the only one that like (no bits) orange marmalade in thier bacon sandwich. Not too much but it gives it a lovely sweet & sourish kick but without the overpowering of proper sweet chilli sauce.

Make the bread toasted and you have 2 breakfast courses in 1

An old work pal of mine used to have liver and onion gravy with three sachets of Heinz salad cream.

I don’t know where to start with that one….

I salute your scientific diligence Mr, nay, Professor Yeti.

Despite having made the cardinal sin of allowing sauce to mix you have at least rubbished the theory that Mayo is good. Well done 🙂

    Thank you Dr.

I am now searching for a new project. Whilst other suggestions for fish butties have been made I believe a new main filling could be necessary. Possibly a move away from the field of sandwich fillings altogether.

A final note… eating several rounds of fish finger sarnies, washed down with lager, will give you a rather unpleasant re-gurge effect.

Am eating (for the 4th day in a row) a roast beef sandwich with tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, English mustard and…McCoys flame grilled steak flavoured crisps.

Am guessing that this would be against the rules? It tastes like eating a really dirty steak & chip butty though – it’s like a taste machine gun firing indiscriminately around my mouth…

Can’t believe in 7 pages of posts it’s only been mentioned twice.

    Soy sauce.

You can cook with it, add it to rice, but to really chuck the cat among the pigeons, put soy sauce on unseasoned chips. Adds both tang and saltiness, in a perfect ratio.

And it’ll be excellent on fishfinger sangers too, i expect. I shall report back on this after the weekend.

I got as far as the dreadful mistake in the first line, bacon is perfectly acceptable with brown sauce. At this point all credibility was lost and I didn’t read any further. 🙂

Right. I feel sick at the very thought of that. That’s knocked the truly vile idea of Salad cream with Sunday roast off the top spot.

Soy Sauce is the same as Worcester Sauce – sauce by name only.

They go in things, not on things.

Proper sauce, and by this I mean RED[/u] or Brown, go on things.

Soy “sauce” on chips is just wrong. It’s like putting custard on a pizza. WRONG!

(I also will be trying fishfinger sangers with Primula cheese ‘n’ chive squeezycheeze. NOW how do you feel?)
