Please may I have your recommendations for a suitable (ha!) arrangement for carrying a suit and shirts while travelling. I have been using a fold up suit carrier (stuff goes in on hangers, then the whole lot folds in thirds). While I like the idea, it isn’t quite big enough.

I’d like to be able to get a week’s worth of kit into it. For use on planes trains and automobiles. Doesn’t need to be flashy, but I’d prefer it to last a few trips.

Your thoughts and suggestions please.

I used to travel a lot for work. I’d only use 1 bag. Last trip was in October, 9 days in Asia – Thailand and Singapore for both work and play. Took 1 soft carry on bag including laptop, ipad, kindle, swimming stuff

I put all my shirts, ties and trousers in an Eagle Creek shirt carrier – http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packit-folders/l/211

I can get 5 shirts in there, two pairs of trousers and some ties if needed. Jacket is either folded gently and placed on top, or worn for the flight

I’ve used both the special jacket folding method (one shoulder inside out and placed into the other) and the normal just fold it up approach, had no difference in results

I also used two packing cubes as they let you get things in the bag in an organised and simple way. Only one pair of shoes in hand luggage, one worn and maybe flip flops if needed in the bag. Shoes also have stuff in there like travel charger or belt

My toiletry kit is tiny and fits into one of the ziploc bags making security a lot easier

Fold a suit properly and it’ll be fine in a normal bag.

I do this, combined with a packing folder for shirts and trousers, then the whole lot goes in my carry-on/large messenger bag thing just fine.

Has a rigid plastic back you use as a folding template, which then protects them.

Wear the jacket with casual trousers or jeans, fold shirts. Place shoes at the bottom of the bag in suitable shoe bag, wrap suit trousers around the folded shirts to avoid creasing, add wash bag and underwear. A week’s clothing will fit in a weekend bag. I use a Barbour waxed cotton Travel Explorer bag.

I also travel with a Wenger tri-fold suit carrier that zips into a roll-on suitcase (22″ is the smallest to take the suit holder. Whilst this is fine and gives lots of space to bring home purchases, it’s too big for simple travel. I prefer travelling light.

Hell, why not put some pens in the top pocket of your short sleeved shirt to complete the look!

As above, roll or fold properly in a normal suitcase. Samsonite is my one week pick.

Sort of a rolling suit duffle bag thingy. Not massive capacity, so more for one or two day trips only.

Thank you for the suggestions – I an slightly ashamed to admit that the suit folding method had completely passed me by. It certainly widens the options. I’ll try that out next time I reckon.

I have a rule that means I never travel in a suit, unless for a single day trip somewhere. There’s something awful about someone slumped in their seat in a crumpled suit, tie loosened. It’s almost as bad as the bus driver look! 😀

Kinda a combo of both – if you search youtube for reviews you’ll probably find someone showing how you use one.

I don’t recommend rolling your best suit on the kitchen worktop next to the hob. Unless you like greasy spots on your clothes!!

+1 for the Eagle Creek flat packing things. They look like really big envelopes and have a folding board inside with instructions on how to fold for best results. Excellent for packing shirts, Ts, trousers, and a suit coat.

I have been using the eagle creek folder for shirts and it works well. It takes up some additional space though.
