Just got back from my last ride for a while as I’m going in for knee surgery tomorrow morning.

Am gonna miss it loads but hopefully I should come back to it fitter. Anybody else had to stop riding for a while and felt bad putting ur bike in the garage for the last time????

    Good luck! And heal fast.

I had lots of knee problems when I was younger (less old….). I always came back riding better and stronger to be honest. I think my legs quite liked having a few months rest.

Yes – the last week of April last year (when it was lovely and hot) I had a fantastic fast ride across the Quantocks with a mate, packed up my bike, went home and went in for ankle surgery.

I didn’t heal well, I tried climbing on my bike (difficult on crutches) with the chain slipped off leaning against a wall and just trying to turn the pedals as I missed it so badly. Pretty much the day I started riding again the rain started. But it makes me appreciate it even more, and the fitness comes back remarkably quickly.

Oh, I should have said that you do get it back but it does take a while.

    Good luck with your op!

Two weeks ago today I had a shoulder op but made sure beforehand that I chose a super ride to remember. So for me that was natural trails, gorgeous views and bluebells. 8)

Bikes are hidden away although I appear to have a wheel in the kitchen. 😳

Don’t rush your recovery and do as you’re told by the medics!

good luck on the operation – op!

i’d just had one year out with a bust ankle tendon and missed it more than i thought i would, i’ve managed to avoid an operation, but you never know, may have to in the future if it goes again

just started riding again and progress is very slow, but slowly building things up – had my first loop round llandegla blue this week (when then weather was still ace) and it felt brilliant

I’m facing the same, got my first MRI this Sunday, then appointment with specialist 2 weeks later. preliminary diagnosis is a torn lateral miniscus. looking up cures, its rest or surgery. rest has failed, so think surgery is in my near future.
How long is your recovery predicted to be? hope it goes quickly and you come back stronger. I’m not looking forward to what they find in my knee, but really want the pain gone.

I had an operation on my knee in December, I was on crutches for 7 weeks but after 9 weeks I was back on a static bike, 12 weeks on and I was out riding. my knee feels great now and I’m managing at least 2 rides a week.

Best advice I can give is to get to the physio as soon as possible, do as you’re told!

I had torn meniscus and a part of the cartilage had detached from the bone so it was painful to walk on, basically they went in keyhole, tidied up the cartilage and where the cartilage had detached they cut it away from the bone and drilled the bone in 8 places to make it bleed and scab over inside the joint! that’s why I wasn’t allowed to weight bare for so long.

It did my head in not being able to ride but now I’m loving it, it’s still painful to walk but riding isn’t a problem, tbh I hate walking anyway so I’m not that bothered!

    Good luck with the recovery!

Had a hip resurfacing 18 months ago and now doing up to 50 miles a week off road so hang in there.
At the moment youj may be fed up but you will get back into it and the best of all the pain has gone.
