Looking at a cheapish replacement car <£2k, 9-3 Estate Auto an option as I like Swedish cars,are Saab spares OK to get hold of?

Engine parts, gearbox and and chassis bits are okay to get hold of as they are GM.

Interior fittings, trim etc. not so as they were SAAB.

as above, its just a vectra in drag. you can probably get any trim from breakers if you were desperate.

Mate of mine used to have a 9-3 Griffin. Great thing but he ditched it as he did struggle to get parts. Not the main items but little odds and sods like power steering hoses and things like that. He had a leaky power steering hose which was bespoke to the SAAB and not GM even though the steering rack was. All weird and wonderful fittings so couldn’t get one made up. Only option was direct from SAAB for a silly price or used for an even sillier price. Not sure if it was due to it being the Griffin model which was a special edition model, but I’d be wary about sourcing parts.

Though it is basically a Vector in drag it doesn’t mean that all the underpinnings are GM and has alot of bespoke parts. Kind of why they went bust.

no, hence the term ‘in drag’. Its a term commonly used in the automotive industry to suggest that the majority of significant components are shared, but it has a different body on it. See audi TT (golf in drag).

are any of the major components not available on a vectra? I don’t count wierd plastic cladding or mildly raised suspension. if its a 4wd version, you have to get those bits from an insignia

Abbot Racing are a helpful bunch too and can supply most stuff (my local specialist, reassuringly expensive).

As above, no issues getting chassis parts at all, but trim, engine parts(if it’s a Saab as opposed to GM unit) and bodywork can be a pain in the arse.

The first gen 9-5 is based on the mk1 vectra. The (rare) 2nd gen 9-5 is insignia based. The 9-3 (2nd gen) is mk2 vectra based.
