- Ryan Adams…another creep?
Well, it’s not looking good for him.
New album had been pulled, amp and pedal suppliers are chucking him under the bus too.
Being nasty and manipulating with your partners is one thing, texting sexy time stuff with underage people is a whole different ball game.
It does seem like he’s being tried and found guilty by public opinion but there does seem to be a lot of smoke if there is no fire like he says.
I’ve never had this sort of thing happen to an artist I liked, anyone else? Deleting all his stuff and binning his CDs seems a bit premature but necessary in the future?
Posted 10 months agoRyan Adams’ album ‘Big Colors’ has release cancelled following sexual misconduct claims
When I saw the headline earlier, I thought they had missed the B from the beginning of his name. I know some posters like to pretend not to know who celebrities are, but in this case I genuinely don’t have a **** clue who he is and why he is famous. But he does look like a creep, so he must be guilty.
Posted 10 months agoShocked. For MSP’s benefit RA is very talented, he’s been around for quite a long time. Not burning my CDs or books just yet.
Edit: His first solo album, Demolition, came out in 2002. Not sure when he hooked up with The Cardinals.
Posted 10 months agoA visit to youtube revealed he is a “creator” of bland dad rock. So more in common with Bryan Adams than just a similar name.
Posted 10 months agoEr, no. Definitely not MSP.
Posted 10 months agoA got given Gold as a secret santa gift this year. Binned it.

Dull, derivative guitar music. Never understood why journos rated his stuff. Won’t be missed as plenty similar to listen to.I’m not going to join in on trial by public opinion, I prefer trial by judge and a jury.

For anyone not familiar with either artist, Bryan Adams is Canadian, Ryan Adams is American.Don’t think the thread is about whether he’s any good or not DebZ. But don’t let that stop you…
Posted 10 months agoI think it gets called alt-country/rock but whatever it is I’m sure it isn’t Dadrock.
He’s had some ‘issues’ over the years and was seen as quite a sensitive soul by many.
His new stuff was sounding good from the snippets he had released but I think we won’t here it for a while, if ever.
Gold is a great album from the formative years of my relationship with my missus. One of those ‘if in doubt’ driving albums. On a pure selfish note I don’t want to lose it!
EDIT: Cinnamon Girl: yes! La cienga…if THE track of the album.2nd EDIT: I don’t think I’ve ever gone on a thread about something I know nothing and just slagged it all off. Weird 😳

Did you not see I quoted someone else? that means I’m responding to them. Bit like this Double D. See, wasn’t even about Ryan Adams, that.
Posted 10 months agoGenuinely gutted and hope with all my heart it’s not true, but why would these women come forward with stories like this if it wasn’t. Music is a pretty big part of my life generally but his more than most, and his are some of the songs I have the strongest emotional connection and some of it has got me through some pretty rough patches in the past. Makes it all the harder to take the news and pretty torn what to do if it turns out to be true. I know the done thing is to burn it all and boycott, but such is the importance of his music to me it will be really hard.
Posted 10 months agoEDIT: no point
Anyway, as for Ryan Adams, I kinda thought to myself when it came out, “Jeez, I’m glad I saw him before all this came out…” which is a bit of a shite thought. But whether he’s guilty of it all or not, he’s pretty much finished now for the foreseeable future.
Posted 10 months agoCan I confess that I haven’t got rid of all my Gary Glitter albums.
(Or my Rolling Stones, Led Zep and Bowie stuff.)
Posted 10 months agoWasn’t he in Whiskey Town before going solo, so around since mid nineties? He’s nothing like Bryan Adams or dad rock for that matter. I’ll be disappointed if it’s true, but not surprised. He’s a musician, they’ all massive **** ups as far as I can tell.
Can I confess that I haven’t got rid of all my Gary Glitter albums.
I’d say no eddie but that ship appears to have sailed.
Posted 10 months agoI’ve only heard good things about Bryan Adams, apparently he’s a very nice man.
Dunno about this fella but the etiquette of what to do about people’s music if they turn out to be wrong uns is fascinating.
Personally I still enjoy Jackson 5 songs and early MJ solo stuff, up to Thriller I suppose. He probably started the paedo stuff after that, which is convenient as his music also got worse.
Is that ethically sound?
Posted 10 months agoJust bought tickets a few weeks ago for his forthcoming tour. I’m guessing that’s binned now. A brilliantly talented musician if a little fragile. If hes done what they accuse him of then he’ll receive his punishment.
A lot of pitchforks are out on twitter from the keyboard warriors.
The mans already hung.

What’s he got to do with anything?

So basically you liked him before he was white?
Racist

Keep up at the back…
Posted 10 months agoThe Bryan/Ryan thing is a long running ‘joke’, and is up and running on here too 🙄
I doubt many Lost Prophets tracks get listened to anymore.

We expect our artists to do weird stuff and acknowledge drug taking, infidelity and hotel trashing to be part of the creative process.
I just wish they’d stop fiddling with kids.I doubt many Lost Prophets tracks get listened to anymore.

I just wish they’d stop fiddling with kids. Was a strange thing, listening to Colin Murray and one of the panel wanted to pick 2 Little Boys https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Little_Boys Which is an incredibly sad but meaningful song who’s power has changed due to Rolf Harris singing it, worth a listen – it’s towards the back end of the podcast

Wagner?
Posted 10 months agoI saw lostprophets live. Not listened to them since the allegations
Posted 10 months agoI don’t think Ian Watkins’ sentence of 29 years for ‘being a nonce’ can be classed as allegations!
Posted 10 months agoGutted.I’m a fan boy & have seen him perform many times. He is definitely a volatile character, but that doesn’t excuse grooming underage girls or being a bit of a rotter. I was also a Gary Glitter fan …I fear a pattern is beginning to show.
Posted 10 months agoOne feels that there will be a long list of others behind him, should the allegations be true. The whole 70 / 80s groupie scene was rife with the underage.
Posted 10 months agoThe whole 70 / 80s groupie scene was rife with the underage.
Certainly seems to be the case. Anyone still listening to The Stones? Bowie? Led Zepp? And thats just the big and well known cases.
Posted 10 months agoBill Wyman….
Posted 10 months agothis is it. Can’t stand Ryan Adams but there are plenty that I do like who have had allegations/convictions against them…
Miles Davis
James Brown
Led Zep
The Stones
R Kelly
Michael Jackson
Gang Fatale
Swans
Loefah…and on and on. It’s so frequent that there are plenty more indie/rock bands where I’ve seen allegations and just forgotten about it, it falls into the current.
I thought that this article in the guardian about ‘beta male misogyny’ in indie/alt music was very good:
Reminds me a bit of Glastonbury the other year. Out of the two big headliners, one was a bit of a gobby pillock (Kanye), and the other was literally on the sex offenders register for child porn offences (Pete Townshend). And guess which one had the petition against him saying he wasn’t suitable for Glastonbury?
We (society) will do some pretty ridiculous moral gymnastics to excuse people we want to excuse at times.
Posted 10 months agoStrangers Almanac by Whiskeytown and his first solo album, Heartbreaker are beautiful works, definitely not bland dad rock. Gold is ok, a bit too polished for my taste. After that I just couldn’t keep up with his output.
Posted 10 months agoSeems he’s very controlling, and both Mandy Moore, his ex-wife, and Phoebe Bridgers, who he was introduced to and whose album he was involved with, as well as her for a time have told of his needy and controlling behaviour – demanding to know where Phoebe was, what she was doing, threatening suicide when she didn’t reply to texts, then refusing to release music.
I love Phoebe’s album, and one track in particular, ‘Motion Sickness’, which turns out to be about Adams.
That sort of behaviour on its own isn’t enough to condemn someone, many people are like that, of both sexes, but reports of his behaviour with a girl younger than 16 via text is well out of order.
Here’s the lyrics to Motion Sickness…“Motion Sickness”
I hate you for what you did
And I miss you like a little kid
I faked it every time but that’s alright
I can hardly feel anything
I hardly feel anything at allYou gave me fifteen hundred
To see your hypnotherapist
I only went one time, you let it slide
Fell on hard times a year ago
Was hoping you would let it go and you didI have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you outI’m on the outside looking through
You’re throwing rocks around your room
And while you’re bleeding on your back in the glass
I’ll be glad that I made it out
And sorry that it all went down like it didI have emotional motion sickness
Somebody roll the windows down
There are no words in the English language
I could scream to drown you outAnd why do you sing with an English accent
I guess it’s too late to change it now
You know I’m never gonna let you have it
But I will try to drown you outYou said when you met me you were bored
You said when you met me you were bored
And you you were in a band when I was bornI have emotional motion sickness

I try to stay clean and live without
And I want to know what would happen
If I surrender to the sound
Surrender to the soundAdding to the historical stuff… Every Christmas, Slade…

Dave Hill once boasted that he’d bought a house next to a girls’ school. Pretty sure his mate Gary used to come and stay for the ‘advantages’.
But, nobody cares when they’re yelling along with Noddy. Is this the point I should reveal I’m really a 15-old-boy and will be prosecuting Molgrips for calling me a prick wehn I was 12.
FFS he never even “physically” met the girl around whom the main enquiry is based. I haven’t bothered to look at the other cases but one is a biiter soon to be ex and there’s a good chance some of the others could be gold diggers.
Let the FBI do there job then bump the thread and we’ll start talking when there’s more the mud slinging to discuss. I’d never heard of him before this thread either.
