I’ve started getting foot cramp when running or during circuit training after around 15mins, if I stop running and start weights then return to running I don’t get cramps until 30 or 40mins.

I have had the same running trainers for around 3.5 years, they are standard adidas £30 jobs and don’t look worn out.

Do you think I should just get some more trainers or could there be another reason, I don’t want to go to a special running store as reckon most of it is a load of tosh!

    – those shoes sound old and knackered. Perhaps more importantly, depending on where you stand on the whole ‘running shoes are bad, mmkay’ debate, they may not fit your natural running pattern. The cramp may be from having not quite enough support in the arches. Get yourself to a running shop and see what they suggest.
    – as with all cramps it could also be a salt/ fluid thing. Dunno how much you hydrate beforehand or sweat, but isotonic drinks could be worth a look.

if the cramp is under the foot or along the arch you can be pretty sure you need different trainers. I get this on the cross trainer because I have a £30 pair of beautifully clean trainers for gym use and cba to clean my decent runnning shoes each week to use indoors…

ahh the arches I think your right as it goes diagonally across there. I’m not against running shops but I want to see a runner who has run up hills, on tarmac, round tracks and on treadmills; as opposed to a spotty teenager who is working for his beer money.

They say you should replace every 6 months, when my current pair die I’m going to pop along to a specialist running shop and get properly fitted rather than buying ones I think look nice 🙂

Get your gait checked. Worked for me. New shoes loads better.
