Sonny Bill won the NZ heavyweight boxing championship in the week the guy he stopped in the first round looked like a tub of lard even for journeymen heavyweight boxers.

Ah, but he did nearly knock out SBW at the weigh-in!

(he said, carefully avoiding any 6Nations talk)

Youngs off at half time – he just seems so slow now! We need to get the ball a bit quicker

Youngs? He’s doing all the bloody tackling!

Hodgson should never been on in the first bloody place.

He has made a fair few tackles but isnt helping us going forward

Hodgson should never been on in the first bloody place.

That single selection has made me look forward to seeing the back of Lancaster.

Who else would you pick at 10 at the moment?

I’d rather see Wilkinson!! At least he was good once…

I rather see graham rowntree at 10 than catflap. He’s never been anywhere near world class and never will be. It’s a dire selection which undermines the whole philosophy of the new young team. Youngs hasn’t been good enough since he came back from injury either. Being on a pitch with parise is the closest dowson will ever get to a world class 8,, barrit is tindall with hair and only filling a shirt until Manu is fit again. The pack needs far more fire.

Farrell seems a bit more settled on the kicking now. How will Italy’s fitness stand up in the last 20? Cant see them struggling too much.

Would like to see Ben Morgan come on

    EDIT: Morgan is on

Nice to see a bit of pace – Youngs just isnt getting to the breakdown quick enough.

not sure why the italians have started backing off the tackles though

England look better since Youngs has gone.

Yep, good call with the scrum half replacement.

England seem to have the momentum at the moment but too close to call. More interesting than last week anyway!

England still look raw but are a work in progress. Damn, just pegged back in the 22. 5 metre line out.

Commodus is doing rather well at scrum half.

Not sure I would have had Parisse as man of the match

Cannot see what england are trying to do. A team with some backs will really punish them soon unless they improve.

Parisse was good, thought it was voted for by the Italian media 😆

That will be England’s last win this tournament but they will get better, i’m quietly happy about where England are heading now, unlike the last few years.

Dixon made a massive difference, he has to start next game.
That’ll be the last win of this 6N but I can live with that.

Farrell motm for me. should be at 10.

Well it was better than last week. Like you say will take two from two. You never know France might not turn up which will give us 3 wins. If we can just scrape one win from the remaining 3 matches I would be happy.

Would have Dickson and Morgan start next time and if Flood is fit we might be competitive

how many get out of jail free cards have England got?

Why are the back three not seeing any ball?

    muddydwarf

TBH i’ll take the 3 losses coming up. At least England are now trying to play rugby (regardless of A-A’s slightly piratical eyeline view). It won’t happen this year, it may not happen next year but i’ll take that over where Scotland are currently – at least England have a direction, even if it is upward!

Good result from a team that is very much “work in progress”.

    What’s Scotland’s excuse? 8)

They’re doing with Farrell what they did with Wilkinson.

England haven’t been attacking well, but their defense and composure have been pretty solid.
Italy didn’t show any signs of scoring a try, like Scotland last week, and they got lucky twice – but then so have England (Hodgson).
I don’t expect a lot, but it will be interesting to see how this England team stand up in the next three games, where their defense will be truly tested.
Some good substitutions today gave England some momentum.
    They’re getting better.

So tell me muddy dwarf what are england trying to do? Their front row apart the back three are a strength and they rarely get a pass. Farrel can kick and him and baritt can tackle, what else can they do?

    muddydwarf

As England fans we have to accept that teams like Ireland, Wales and France are currently light years ahead of where England want to be. Yes, there is a new ethos in the England camp and some promising new players but we need to be realistic. The long term prospects are brighter than they were 6 months ago but it will take a huge shift in culture – a shift that is only just beginning.

Still, at least we’re not Scotland!
