So they are nearly here according to the email I had from Sam yesterday and I am now wondering what kit to fit mine out in?

Currently I have an XT BB and, well in honesty that’s about it!

Anyone care to give me an insight in to what they are planning for theirs?

    POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

    650b+ !! You’ve waited 18 months for one of only 4 or 5 29+ frames in existence and you’re putting 650b+ in it? 😆

I’m going 1×11 xt M8000, I’ve a thomson post or an rsp dropper and thomson stem with a pair of groovy luv handles or a pair of easton havens. Wheels are Duallys on novatec hubs shod with chronicles.

Magnum sure is tempting, I’ve been reading though that new boost spaced Rebas also have enough clearance…..

The Magnums seem to be getting really good reviews on the Trek Stache…

Yokaiser, let us know how you find the chronicles, I’ve heard reports that they are draggy compared to other 29+ offerings

Been riding with a Chronicle on the front of a Jones and a Knard on a Gryphon. Only riding 29er+ at the front but the Chronicle wins for me in every respect.

Does anyone think we will be able to run any of these plus size tyres in the sticky winter clag.? It’s my worst fear that I have these nice plus size wheels and frame and end up putting 2,25 beavers on…..

In winter I’ll be going fatter, not thinner.

Can’t do that in 29+ frames can you?

    No – but that’s why I have a fatbike.

    Ha, me too.

Sprinking of XT (BB, chain, cassette, SPDs) and Zee 1×10 (rest of drivetrain). Absolute black oval chainring. Old SLX brakes from the spare parts bin. Duallies on Novatec D882SB hubs & Surly Dirt Wizards.

ESI chunky grips, Ritchey stem, Funn flat bar. Fabric scoop saddle.

First new bike (rather than 2nd hand) in over five years!

    Singlespeed (32 x 20)
Rabbit hole with Chronicle up front.
Knard on Dually 46mm at rear.

Combo headset with Hope bottom cup and a Chris King top
    Middleburn square taper cranks.

    BB7 front 180mm
    SLX rear 160mm

    Thomson and Easton bits
Oh and a nice bell from Spurcycle 🙂

Just need something to hang all of that off! 😉

Did I mention I hate it when things match?

Front tyre has a tube, rear is tubeless!

29+ in winter? Depends on your local mud. If it’s sticky clay clag be prepared for your wheels to end up weighing more than the queue at MacDonalds.

I’m kinda looking forward to trying Minion 2.5s on wide rims and still having masses of mud clearance!

Oh those Manitous are tempting but think I’ll wait a while before pushing the button. At that price i can’t see them selling out to quickly!

Just realised that I bought a load of bits a few months ago to build up a new bike for the gf’s which hasn’t/ins’t now going to happen as my need is greater 😆

Just got to decide on black or silver finishing kit for it is guess but as I got the Swift Blue one coming then I’m leaning towards sliver Thomson stem, and post with some sunline risers I have laying around.

Anyone got any ideas on wheels other than the Surley Rabbit Hole or Hugo?

I’m going down the bike-packing route. dyno front hub, rabbit holes/chronicles, 8 speed alfine, XT brakes. At least I was until I saw a deal on 11 speed XT! Its be redesigned a few times in the last year or so.

Be aware of your headset choice, you can’t get a silver hope in these sizes (AFAIK), so I’ve gone back to black, however, Sam has a silver one on one of his pics but I don’t know what sort it is.

It’s a Cane Creek Forty with 10 seconds in some caustic soda then 30 on the buffing wheel 🙂

The mahoosive Maxxis logo on the Chronicles will match the yellow of the frame on mine

    Good point kCal!

Might need to mismatch my grips, pedals and cranks (length, and q-factor).

    . . . or maybe not!

Grips certainly – I could go Red – Green: Port – Starboard 😉
