I have a 4kW system on the roof, was professionally installed rather than DIY. Works well, also heats our water during the summer with a link to our immersion so saves a bit of gas too.

You don’t get a feed in tariff with this kit. It will give you electricity but no money. You “benefit” from using the electricity you generate to power your devices.

1kw will not provide much saving in my view.

    A bit of maths.

1kw will only be produced in good daylight conditions. It may be only 100-200w for some of the time.
So, 1kw per hour for 8 hours a day = 8 units generated per day in ideal conditions. Lets assume its only 25% effective, given poor daylight etc.
    2 units a day, 365 days = 730 units a year. 16p a unit roughly = £117 a year.
This assumes you’ve got devices running that will use all 1kw if it’s generating that. My house is “idle” at around 600W so if you’re out and it’s generating 1kW you’ll be wasting 400W of it anyway.

If you’re going to do it, do it with a feed in tariff and go for more Kw.

I don’t think it’s very good at all.

Thanks for that Rich, won’t bother! Maybe when I’ve got a bigger roof.
