After last weekend at Afan this was what my stanchions looked like…

Obviously it’s not going to polish out!

My question is, what’s going to happen? I’ve never rebuilt forks before (perhaps that’s why it’s happened!). If I do rebuild them will they leak? I’m hoping it just means more stiction at the start of the stroke.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

    Here you go.

My Recons were a tiny bit better than this, but not much. My view is that they will still work for now, but will benefit from very regular lower leg service from now on, as they will be far more prone to stuff getting past the seal. If you learn how to get the lowers off and do this, it’s only a half-hour job.

Umm – where is the seal/foam ring? Are they damaged?

@ martinhutch. Thanks for the photo and the advice. I’ll get a service kit and keep my eyes out for a replacement forum bargain.

    Cheers.
