Just picked up a set of Pike ultimate with a bolt through axle.

i assume if I buy a Rockshox QR Maxle It’s a direct swap?

    have I assumed right!!!

Yes, so long as it –

The correct length axel, thread pitch, thread length and 15mm

I’d stick with the bolt-through tbh. Less to go wrong. Though you do need to carry the right allen key – or make sure it fits one on your multi-tool.

If you want a QR version then go for the Brand X one of the correct size. The Rockshox Maxle design is poor and this is exacerbated by some if it being made out of cheese.

    What BWD said.

Although if you do want to buy a new one I’ve got one that came straight out of my forks that I swapped for a bolt through one.

Yes, but it’s not as good- the current maxle has a slightly weak lever that can snap in normal use.

(and really, how often do you ever want to take a wheel out, when you don’t also have tools convenient?)

    Ahh

so the bolt through is better. It came a bit loose yesterday but I’d not noticed the torque settings stamped on it when I did it up..,,

I’ll try again, and make sure I can get it undone with my multi tool!

    cheers all
