Robust riding gloves

I’ve got hands like shovels and generally buy gloves with multiple Xs before the L. Endura are one of the few manufacturers who supply kit that fits. I use their full finger gloves and track mitts. Sadly, their Velcro closures are skimpier than a Wicked Weasel bathing costume, resulting in them randomly detaching and curling up like a fortune telling fish from a Xmas cracker. They’d be bugger all use to a tender palm scraping along the ground. Can any of you fine people recommend a glove manufacturer that makes size 10 gloves with equally generous Velcro closures?

Cycling industry seems to use the shittest velcro out there.

Specialized trail gloves are durable, velcro is above the normal level of shit.

100% gloves with no velcro, 6 months in on a few pairs and they are holding up well. Easily get them on my size 10/11 mitts.

I’ve been buying my gloves from Motocross shops. Their lightweight offerings are great for riding and seem more robust.

Need to replace my summer gloves (or try and sew them) as the fabric on the back is losing its shape, but the palm is holding up fine.

Ion are the most durable I’ve used, even the lightest ones last forever.

If you want gloves that won’t get holes worn in the material, look at softshell ones rather than the complicated, expensive multi-panel MTB type that always wear through on the palm.

Thanks folks. Hadn’t considered the world beyond cycling kit but MX, weightlifting and sailing gloves will possibly offer similar features.

100% briskers are durable for me.

Bought a 100% summer gloves, wore through bits, the seam at the thumb/ forefinger in record time.

I took Alpin’s suggestion and have bought some MX gloves, first ride I have been really impressed.

Troy Lee XCs always seem to last years for me

Hard for me to suggest a hardwearing glove as I have so many pairs, from buying them up in sales… but size-wise (also XXL in gloves) I’d avoid ION (one of my fave brands for all other kit) as their glove sizing is inconsistent. (Plus they don’t use velcro open/closure on many types)
Fox Ranger gloves came apart at the seams after about 3 wears, Troy Lee are perfect sizing and seem to last ok, decent velcro too. 100% Briskers in orange are going well, but the black look right state with the decals peeling off (good velcro though).
I reckon Troy Lee XC are the ones to go for – can be had cheap in sales too (s’why I have 2 pairs) 🙂

I can attest that the palms on these will take a hard fall/slide on solid hard packed trail covered with a thin layer of fine gravel. Typical dry trail centre surface. My palms and the gloves unscathed. Thought, damn I got out out that one pretty well. I’d been thinking to get cooler gloves for summer, but not anymore.
