  • Road / Audax bike. What to get for £600?

A colleague has had his trusty commuter bike pinched and he wants to replace with a road bike on a budget of £600 RRP. He’s asked for my help as I’m the Cycle To Work Czar at our place, but I’m not too well up on road bikes.

So, for commuting and sportives, what would you get for £600 max?

I got myself this last year.

Specialized Allez or Giant Defy perhaps if it’s a bike scheme purchase and therefore has to be new.

That Scott you link to looks a good price.

Boardman from Halfords? Some employers C2W schemes seem to be limited to Halfords, plus one can usually get 10% off using discount codes/ CTC vouchers.

boardman bikes always look great value for money, as long as he makes sure it’s assembled correctly.

For that money, and for a good all round, all year bike – RIBBLE.

Those Ribble Winter/Audax bikes are ace, you get guards and to pick your own spec.

    Boardman? Carrera?
Think Dawes do a steel Audax bike for similar money.
    Singlespeed Genesis?

The cycle scheme is an in-house one, so he can get what he likes (within reason – no uni cycles, BMXs or DH rigs) as long as it is new and we can buy it with a credit card.

Revolution (Edinburgh bikes in-house brand) have a steel-framed, disc-brake tourer for about £600.

it’s basically a genesis cdf, but £300 cheaper.
