    White Coppice Cricket Club

    Lane below Pike

An inch or so of snow on Rivington today. Not really a big fan of the Pike but it was very pleasant today-very few walkers and the new Specialized Storm Controls performed faultlessly in compacted and fresh snow as well as the few ice patches dotted about.

Looked like a cyclocross bike had been out on the bridleway up to the Nab.

Tend to avoid the place ove the weekend. Full of cocks with generic fighting dogs swigging wife beater.

Lowey, was out with KKF , was getting shouted at by dog walkers who were probably up there for the first time this year and thinking they owned the place.

Saw 3 seperate groups coming up the ‘eliminator’

I was up there on Sunday and it was fine – descents were all walker free and everyone seemed happy and friendly. There was two scallies in a probably nicked escort trying to drive up what I think is called the ice cream run though. It didn’t go well.

Eliminator – ice cream run I think.

We call it elimiator from when Bolton Mountain Bikes ran a duel eliminator from the Pike down to the car park…..with Peat,Longden et al in attendance.

I get the feeling that I’ve yet to be a proper Mountain biker, once I’ve ridden the Ice Cream Run, will I have passed the test? lol

me & Rivvy do have a past ? it’s very fast & fun but it’s one of the places i do tend to get my downhill confidence back ! eek, that usually ends up in a big stack & broken bones ! it could be that i’m just getting old so therefore better to stick to the other local routes eh, like the mary townley loop or gisburn forest lol !

you need to ride it rigid SS for the full badge. You need to jump the tarmac drop – better to the right IMHO- not roll it . One of the few places I have yet to crash – wrecked two wheels there though but yet to stack badly. Not nice when icey. I have walked it as well there are no lines just hold on.

That’s just for the beginner badge.
You *know* what the next, and fully qualified step is to that one. 😉

I did that on Sunday when it was all iced/frosted up – I must get a good few man points.

I think it’s better to jump to the left. The kennels descent from the two lads is my fave.

wors…..best line is to the right, high up he bank like a berm…many will disagree.

    good descent though.

we saw an old bloke go down the icr on a unicycle

btw the belmont descent wants leaving alone until spring, and then it will want some serious work

I doubt it will get it. I’d just get used to its new, slightly more technical state

(assuming by extrapolation from the last two times I’ve been down it how much more it has eroded by now)

I played chicken with a dog walker on sunday that was shouting at me ‘this is a footpath get off and walk!’ He stood across the path arms folded refusing to move….he moved when I got within about 3 feet of him and didn’t stop 😈

Footpath or bridleway, you must give way to walkers. Plus, if you are talking about the ‘Belmont descent’, that is indeed a footpath so it’s best not to create friction with ramblers when riding it.

Good to see people are still helping to improve relations between walkers and cyclists there then…

I find it better to explain the error of their ways than to appear moronic, aggressive and intimidating. But whatever floats your boat I guess…

Aww danny got a telling off.

It is always possible it was unintentional and he just couldn’t stop but is now bluffing it out 🙂

I’m not sure if it was a footway or bridleway, it was one of those paths near Leverhulme Castle, you know the big wide ones. I always do give way and had moved over to the side of the path. The walker then moved in my line, took his folded arm stance and began shouting taking me by surprise – if you’re prepared to do that then you’ve got to be prepared for me not to stop.

If this doesn’t comply with MTB/walker etiquette then I don’t care.

It is true that there are some very headstrong walkers around that area who think they are right no matter what. Personally, I’d have run away crying, which may have made them realise what a nasty bully they really are.

memory map shows only dashed lines down round the castle so I’d say you’ve won that one 🙂
