Thoughts – it is not a great place for a mountain biker/someone who likes being surrounded by nature. A Hill is something that is above sea level. Cycling infrastructure here is very good – anyone can get anywhere on good cycle tracks, the downside of this is that you struggle to find a place where you can get a bit of mud on your tyres. There is a _small_ wood in Rijswijk and a _small_ mountain biking course over towards Rotterdam airport, but that is pretty much it unless you drive to the other side of Utrecht where there are large ( flat ) woods.
People-wise, the locals can be quite brusk, German friends of mine find them rather untrustworthy and likely to try and see what they can get away with when dealing with you. Coming from the UK I would say that they are probably on a parr with Brits for that sort of thing.
I only took a job here as a gateway to a job with the same organisation in another country, the organisation then stopped making posts available, so I’ve been here far longer than I intended.
EDIT: Reading The Undutchables would be a good idea before deciding to settle here.
