Managed to drop my bike (and me) on an unforgiving surface last night. There's now a nice ding in the top tube – what do the STW hive mind reckon, ride, repair or bin? It's pretty much in the middle of the top tube, on the side. It's a Genesis Altitude 853

With a penny for reference (bit of an odd angle so perhaps not a great pic!)

And remember, bikes bleed too 😥

Yeah, I'm inclined to ride it but I wanted to make sure I wasn't being daft! 🙂

I'm ok, few stitches and superglue sorted me out 🙂

It's steel. I've got an Inbred with a bigger dent that I've been riding for about a year now.

Personnally Id ride that without worrying. Its a dent rather than a crease/buckle

Id wipe that red stuff off the crank though.

Its 853 so it will be fine. Just give it a bit of paint over the scratches and ride the hell out of it… Wash the blood off first though!

CK – are you a proper dibnah style cap wearing, oily rag type engineer or a new fangled one? 🙂

Looks like I'll be riding it then. 🙂

I have something similar near my bottom bracket – been riding it for a while with no problems. Alu though if that makes a difference.

I'd be more concerned about the atrocious length of brake hose!

Phatman – if you mean the one wrapped round the tube, that's a battery cable 🙂

In fairness, it does look like it comes straight from the left hand brake so we'll cut you some slack. 🙂

Methinks someone would like an excuse to buy a new shiny thing….

jca – for once, no. I like it too much to want to replace it!

If you're that bothered a good frame builder could fill and smooth that – respray and you'd never know the difference 🙂

Not sure how you can cut the pointing back so it's no so proud…..

Did you drop the bike while trying to apply tomato ketchup to a bacon sarnie or something??
