New frame on the way that’s 31.6 seatpost and my current frame is 30.9.

I have a Reverb but rather than buying a new one, I’m sure I read on here the other week. That all you need to buy is a new outer seat post sleeve in 31.6 and you can swap them over and change the size to 31.6. Cost about £35.

Is this right? Anybody done it? Instructions?

Presumably they use the same collar at the top? Or any other parts needed?

    Hope somebody can help.

Would it not make sense to use a shim like this one?

I’ve used a USE shim in a 31.6 frame for ages with my 30.9 Reverb, no issue whatsoever and a bit cheaper than the alternative. Plus if you ever go back to a 30.9 frame you’re sorted.

A lot of frames advise against shims and some even invalidate the warranty.

    Plus a 30.9 – 31.6 must be tissue paper thin isn’t it?

    It’s about 0.7mm thin/thick 😉 Edit – no it’s not, i’m a tard! ).35mm 😳
The USE shims are a decent length so I’m not worried about putting stress on the frame, I know plenty of people that do it.

No problems here using a 30.9->31.6 USE shim. They’re fairly long (100mm?) but you probably would want to check whether the frame manufacturer indicates a minimum shim length

After a monster thread here a while back just double check the warranty situation with a shim. If the outer sleeve can be replaced for £35 that would be the option I would take

Or see if you can find someone in the opposite situation and do a swap?

USE shim here too Rik, no issues.

    I’ve got a 2012 31.6 Reverb, and I now need a 30.9.
It’s 125mm drop 380mm post, left hand lever.

    Happy to discuss a swap.

    Cheers
    Ben
