    So I’m wiring up a new front light for the bike and I’m using a switch with an LED in.
    I need to use a resistor between the switch and the power input..

    Resistor = (14.8v – 2.3v)/20mA = 625ohms.

    I’ve got a 1300 ohms resistor so
    a: can I use it?
    b: what difference would it make?

    None.

    Futile, innit?

    it’ll mean your led receives approx 9.6mA instead of 20mA so may be a little dim.

    You could put two of your 1300R in parallel to give you 650R.
