I’ve just picked up a 2nd hand pair of wheels and the freehub is chewed.

When I’ve googled it, it’s brought up prime freehub for £25 with spare bearings. Are the prime hubs rebranded novatec?

This site lists the novatec b2 freehub compatible with prime hubs. It’s Al suggesting the prime freehub is a novatec b2.

Has anyone tried it yet?

Lots of parts available. If you’re finding the freehubs too soft then it might be worth considering using SRAM XD freehubs.
