Drop GF at airport, drive home in her 14 plate mini, not concentrating and scuff the passenger side black alloy. ****!

I think I’ll have to do it through official channels as it’s so new and not my car but any recommendations welcomed. I need a lie down.

Not sure what that bit means ?

But mobile alloy repair is your best bet, I’ve used a few and they have always done a good job.

I just mean I wonder if should do it through bmw/mini?

    No.

Unless you want pay 5 times more for exactly the same result.

It’s not my car though. She’s away for a week and not sure whether to get the work done then tell her or wait until she’s back.

Get it fixed by mobile or indie repairer.

Tell her when she gets back, and ask her to try and spot which wheel it was.

Most dealerships will farm out stuff like to an independent body shop anyway, and just charge you a wedge on top.

I know that and completely agree but worried beemer or the pcp people won’t honour any warranty issues/kick up a fuss? As I say, it’s not my car.

Just get someone local to fix it. Why go to BMW and get them to send it to the same bloke, but quadruple the price.

I’ve had alloys done, and you can’t even tell they’ve been repaired.

Tell her? Are you insane? Never provide ammunition, you lunatic! This stays between you and a load of Middle aged fat blokes on the interweb 😉

If she does notice (she won’t)…..

Leave it as is. If she’s an actual real woman, she’ll never notice and the scratch you’ve just put on them will soon be lost in a patchwork patina of scratches and kerbing. /sexism and generalisation.

Nah she’s a cracking driver, very car proud and will hang me out to dry if I brassneck it. I’m going to have a think but tbh I might take it along to one of the beemer garages I’ve spoken to (they won’t quote over the phone but one said max was £200…) and see what they say. If I get it fixed before she’s back then def needs to be through bmw I think. Although realistically getting that done before Thursday will be very tricky. Then it needs to be in for 3 days.

Alternatively I’ll look at these guys http://www.premierwheelrepairs.com/ but again they take the car for 3 days.

200 quid lol – you’re mental. Mobile guy will be about 50 to 60 quid

You’re going to take it to BMW? You must be mad. Your missus is away and you’re about to blow 150 dabs more than you need too (for the same job), that you know should rightfully be going on coke and hookers tonight instead! 🙂

    Coke,hookers and Cristal.

No offence intended, but that totally mental.

    It makes no sense whatsoever.

It’s a rub down with some wet and dry paper and a bit of spray, literally anywhere could do it. To take it to BMW and pay 5 x what the job is worth, just because the car is made by them is crazy.

An alloy wheel repair is the same no matter what car it’s comes off.

Indeed…. For the lad at the BMW garage who’s just trousered 150 quid after farming out a wheel repair to a bloke who did it for 50, then presented our friend here with a bill for £199.99 (200 quid, max remember?) 😆

Lol ok, ok. I’d rather take it to guys linked above get it properly done and powder coated than a mobile job though.

Then you will have one powder coated wheel, and three painted and lacquered.

That will look nice in sure.

Check the finish on them. If they are diamond cut or a polished finished it will be expensive. Try wheel specialist or someone like that.

Why not have all 4 wheels powder coated, then when she gets back, say that you decided to give her a nice surprise to return home too, as an expression of your undying love for her. She’ll be absolutely overjoyed as she walks out of arrivals to see……

I’d be wanting a couple of new wheels for that kind of money, never mind a repair. Stop being soft in the head and get a local place to repair it for much cheaper.

Seat dealer near us use Wonder Wheels…

I looked at getting all 4 of my wheels repaired and the place I found quoted £300 to strip all wheels, remove any corrosion, fill and powdercoat in a number of standard finishes.
No way I’d pay £200 to touch up a scratch on one wheel!

Option 1. 200 quid at the BMW dealership and tell her. You have the car fixed are in trouble and have spent 200 quid.

Option 2. 50 quid to get it repaired and 150 quid take her out for a super slap up meal because she deserves it and don’t tell her. You have the car fixed, are not in trouble, in fact you are “the best”, have spent 200 quid and will have some excellent sex.

Last time I got a set of wheels stripped and powder coated they cost £76 for a set of 4 18″ alloys.

    (CAS Coatings in Bradford)

That was full strip down and sand blast, and gloss black powder coating, and they did a fantastic job.

£200 to do a touch up on one wheel is beyond ridiculous.

Ok point taken, local and sensible it is

Just done a set of alloys for my A2. Wheels cost £100, strip and powdercoat at the fantastic LSN coatings in Castleford £130 for four.
Thats a full set of wheels bought and refurbished for not much more than BMW Mini want to sand and spray touch one wheel.
Local independant is best, and a fraction of the cost.

There is a difference between what a mobile guy can do and what a proper workshop can do. The places talking about powder coating will probably be talking about powder coating and then painting. Whether it’s worth it for a small scratch is another matter.

I think I paid £360 to Lepsons to get 4 done properly recently, including postage both ways, but they were properly knackered with paint peeling and bubbling all over. Excellent service and results, and I’d recommend them if that’s what you want, but for a small scratch I’d probably go for a mobile repairer.

Depends on where in London, but just had a set of 18 inch alloys dipped and redone at My Alloys in Basingstoke and did a really spot on job. Really chuffed. Including refitting my tyres and new valves was £300 for the 4 off them. They will also do singles and cheaper if a smaller diameter. Just a happy customers recommendation.

    1) mobile repairer
    2) can you see the repair? Yes=confess, no=keep quiet

For info, OP. I didn’t even pay £200 to get this repaired:

Yes, it was probably borderline un-fixable, but the alternative was about £900 for a single new wheel.

Borderline unfixable? Wow. I’m impressed anyone could fix that – if only they did MTB rims.

The guy’s reputation is second to none. Was this place, in Carnwath. Did an absolutely superb job on it.

The OP’s not just looking for the cheapest possible fix like i’d be doing, he wants to put the whole incident right, and just maybe she’ll care whether it was done by BMW or not.

If I was you, I’d leave it til she comes back, say “I’m really sorry, look I did this, how do you want to fix it”. Maybe she’d like different colour wheels and you can get them all done at the same time, maybe she’ll be totally happy with the local place or maybe she’ll want it done “properly” by BMW. It is not yours or stw’s opinion that counts at all.

(also, if you’re picking her up you could always say you did it on the way to get her 😉 )

Man up and tell her straight away. Let her decide what needs to be done.. you’re happy to pay whatever she decides.

You could always torch the car near a local council estate, then report it stolen?

How much for a new wheel from BMW or just look for a matching set on ebay, make sure there is a perfect one and sell the rest and your damaged one on after getting the tyres swapped. Or keep them in the back of a cupboard for next time you do it!

Got a photo of the wheel type?
