Hi guys I just bought a dm Thomson stem and scratched it! It’s a deep scratch on the top down to the silver underneath. Has anyone managed to repair one? It’s doing my ocd in! Thanks

Permanent marker, job jobbed. Then forget about it.

I have used ‘Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black Touch up’ which chemically darkens the metal. It wont go totally black but near enough.

Repair one? How would you do that?
I’d be a little wary of it, but their stems are usually pretty overbuilt so just keep an eye on the scratch.
Or if its new or from e-bay, return it?

It’s only a scratch through the black paint. So that touch up might work thanks. I tried a black marker and it came out blue compared to the stem colour.

Get the Solvol Autosol out and make the whole thing silver.

Milliput epoxy putty is available in black. It’s versatile stuff for filling holes and scratches and you can mould and shape it with wet hands.

Could try humbrol black enamel paint on and apply it with a tiny brush.

This. Have done this previously is a set of scuffed brake levers and have a set of calipers I’ll be tidying up in the next couple of weeks.

I’ve used black nail varnish to fill in/cover up a mark on a fork stanchion before, which worked well enough..
Cheap, too, if you pick up from asda or similar

I found the Thomson mark really easily. Marker pen was no help. Nail varnish! Would you risk those solvents on finest alloy? I’d second the new bike. Works for me.

Flip the stem so the scratch is underneath?
